Residents of Slough are being invited to give their opinions on proposals for the council’s budget for the financial year 2024/2025.

Each year the council sets out where it expects to spend money in the up-coming year and also where savings will be made.

The final budget, including the setting of council tax will be discussed at a meeting of the council’s Cabinet on 26 February and the final decision made at a Full Council meeting on 7 March.

Proposals for investment (more money being spent)

·         Slough Children First – children’s social care

·         Temporary accommodation for the homeless

·         Adult social care

·         IT modernisation projects including equipment refresh

·         Customer contact centre – additional temporary staff

Proposals for savings or additional income

·         Deleting vacant posts in some areas

·         Reduction in waste tonnages and cost of disposal

·         Review of some fees and charges – including parking, adult social care, buildings and allotments

·         Staged closure of Hatfield Car Park

·         Leasing of Arbour Park to Slough Town Football Club

·         Energy efficiencies across council buildings

Councillor Dexter Smith, leader of the council, said: “I am pleased to present the proposed additional investments and efficiencies to Slough residents.

“It is vitally important residents can have confidence public money is being spent efficiently, and being invested in the areas which matter to them.

“I strongly encourage residents to engage in this process by telling us what is important to them and their families”.
