Young people in Slough have been recognised for their hard work and ambition at the Slough Youth Awards. The 10th Slough Youth Awards were held on 28 November. The event was hosted at Lynch Hill Enterprise Academy, hosted by Slough Youth Parliament’s Chair, Junior Jonski, and UK Youth Parliament Representative, Rijuta Acharya. This was their last year hosting before the next Youth Parliament elections. The winners for each award were as follows: Creative Expression Award Being Active Ambassador Award Resilience Award Going Green Champion Award Being Ambitious Award The judging panel for this year’s award show was: This year’s sponsors included: Thank you to all judges and sponsors for the time and support donated. The event began with an inspiring speech from Slough’s MP, Tan Dhesi, praising the young community for their positive work and recognising the personal challenges many young people have overcome in their lives. The keynote speaker was Yasmeen Amod, Youth Communications Officer, SYI (Slough Young Inspector) member, and former SYP member. Yasmeen shared her moving, personal journey through Slough Youth Voice from Year 9 to current Year 13. She spoke of her passion for youth voice and politics, encouraging young people to follow their dreams and challenge those in power. She also wrote this press release. The entertainment this year was the best yet! The awards program throughout the night was supported by Slough Youth Orchestra and the Slough Music Service with a solo performance from young singer, Vihana Perera. Additionally, there was a performance from Beat Routes Collective. Thank you to everyone who performed on the night, reminding us of how talented Slough’s young people are. Cllr Puja Bedi, cabinet member for children and lifelong learning, said: “It was a fantastic night, and I was honoured to judge these awards that celebrate our amazing young people. We really are so lucky in Slough to have so much talent, and a big thank you goes to the Youth Voice Team at the council. Thank you for all the hard work you do, not only organising these awards but throughout the year with our young people. Your dedication helps our young people shine.”
