Major works to get underway |
||
|
Work on the government-financed A4 cycleway and Destination Farnham Road projects will get underway from Monday. The A4 Cycle lane project will involve creating a dedicated two-way cycle lane, approximately 2.5 metres wide, which goes the length of the A4 between its junction with the Huntercombe Lane crossroads and Uxbridge Road. The Destination Farnham Road scheme covers the stretch of A355 Farnham Road from its junction with Cumberland Avenue to its junction with the A4 Bath Road, and this will lead to a new high-quality public space, with an off-road two-way cycle route, new parking facilities and road improvements. The start location for the A4 works has changed from what we communicated in November. The first section of the work is expected to take around six weeks, from Monday 12 January to Friday 21 February, before the contractor moves to the next section. The first stage will affect: • A4 Bath Road, between the Huntercombe Lane crossroads and Goldsworthy Way Temporary traffic lights will be installed, where required, from Wednesday 14 January. Throughout the projects, which are funded through grant money from the Department for Transport, the improvements will include new kerbs and tactile paving, upgraded street lighting, new road signs and markings, drainage works, a new cycle lane, and resurfacing of both the road and footpaths. Councillor Paul Kelly, lead member for planning, parking, highways and transport, said: “These projects have been years in the planning, so it is fantastic to finally be breaking ground and making a start on the changes which will benefit residents for years to come. “There will naturally be some noise and disruption while the works take place, including minor delays, but we urge residents to please be patient and look to the wider benefits.” Access to homes and businesses will remain available. There will still be pedestrian access, with temporary routes and crossing points provided where needed, and this will be clearly signed. Where there is resurfacing work which may require a road closure or diversion, these will be carried out overnight where possible, and for a limited period to reduce disruption. Once this initial section of works has been completed, the contractor, Volker Highways, will move on to the next part of the scheme. Updates on the schemes will be added on the A4 webpage and Destination Farnham Road webpage. Further queries can be sent to transportplanning@slough.gov.uk
