Council takes part in No Mow May

Slough Borough Council will be not mowing 412,670 square metres of grass throughout May in support of the national No Mow May campaign. 

No Mow May is an annual campaign by organisation Plantlife, urging everyone to pack away the lawnmower, let wildflowers grow freely and help nature. 

Approximately 97 percent of flower-rich meadows have been lost since the 1930s, and with them, vital food and habitat needed by wildlife.

But a healthy area with some longer grass allows wildflowers to grow, helps to tackle pollution, benefits wildlife and can even lock away carbon below the ground.

This year Slough is supporting the campaign by leaving 412,670 square metres of grass to grow unchecked – throughout the month.

Residents are also encouraged to take part by leaving their lawns, or part of their lawns unmowed for the month of May, or even longer!

No area is too small; even the tiniest wild patch can let wildflowers like daisies, dandelions and clovers grow; providing vital food needed by bees and butterflies and giving wildlife the best start to summer.
