Cricket fans have the opportunity to get up close to the famous silver cup when it visits Slough town centre on Friday 3 May.
The ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy Tour will be in the town square from 12.30-5pm, and fans have the opportunity to have their photo taken with the trophy. The 100 day countrywide tour aims to promote cricket and participation in the sport, and a host of activities will be taking place to celebrate.
Alongside the trophy, there will also be a number of stalls where residents can hear more about opportunities to participate in cricket, and what is available in the Slough area. Stalls include Berkshire Cricket Foundation, Slough Cricket Club, Active Slough, Everyone Active, Health Watch, Aik Saath, Slough Young People’s Service and Last Man Stands.
Kam Bhatti, active communities manager, said: “The world cup trophy tour is another great feature in an action packed cricket year.
“Our ‘Breaking Boundaries’ project launched last year. The project is helping build community relationships, and creating pathways for our young people to get more involved within their community through the medium of cricket.
“The young community champions aged between 14 and 25 are helping to foster relationships between different community groups which in turn are making Slough a more cohesive and stronger town.
“Now, the world cup trophy visit to Slough will help bring cricket to the attention of a wider audience.”
Adam Davidson, cricket development officer, Berkshire Cricket Foundation said: “We are very excited about the Cricket World Cup Trophy Tour coming to Slough on Friday 3 May.
“Slough is a key focus area for us, and the passion and enthusiasm for the game here is unmatched in the rest of the county.
“We look forward to taking the Cup to Montem Primary in the morning, and then welcoming the community to come to the town centre, have their photo taken with the Cup and learn about all the various cricketing opportunities locally.”
The Slough tour event has been organised by the Berkshire Cricket Foundation in conjunction with the ICC and Active Slough. The 100 day tour of England and Wales will end with the cup arriving back in London for the opening match on 30 May.
