Earlier this year Neighbourhood Watch found that the fear of dog theft has grown amongst our members and supporters. In response we launched a campaign called “Protect Your Pooch” to help to make sure that it doesn’t happen to you and your loved one.

We also encouraged support for a petition asking the Government to make dog theft a more serious offence, and they recently announced plans to introduce such legislation.

We also ran a webinar to cover the theft of dogs and other pets in more detail, with various guest speakers including a Police Sergeant from the Met who deals with this type of crime.

Here are some key points.
Many of these incidents are opportunist and happen when the offender sees that the dog is left unattended, for example in your garden or outside a shop.
It is not just dogs, other pets are also at risk.
