Information sent on behalf of Slough Council

Work on refurbishing temporary accommodation flats at Pendeen Court is now complete, providing much improved living and communal areas for some of the borough’s most in need residents.
Contractor R. Benson Ltd who won the contract through a competitive tender process carried out the works at the two storey building in Chalvey on behalf of James Elliman Homes.
The building which is around 30 years old, was in need of modernisation. All flats were given a facelift with new kitchens, bathrooms, high security front doors, internal doors, windows, electrical re-wiring and full redecoration.
The communal areas have also benefited from the upgrade with the provision of new key-less  secure door entrance systems, new windows,  CCTV,  replacement of all rainwater goods and removal of graffiti throughout.
The laundrette has been refurbished with new energy efficient machines. Externally,  landscaping works and upgrade of the children’s play area (which is still in progress) complement the refurbishment works.
The works were manged through Slough Borough Councils in house Property Services team who worked closely with the team from James Elliman Homes and R. Benson to ensure that tenants within the temporary accommodation flats had as little disruption as possible, and that new tenants could move in as quickly as possible on completion.
Pendeen Court is part of a wider scheme of works across the borough which also includes £12million investment by Slough Borough Council into regenerating its facilities throughout the town including children’s centres, allotment sites and community buildings.
Cllr Mohammed Nazir, cabinet member for housing and finance, said: “I am delighted the refurbishment works at Pendeen Court are complete, this upgrade will make a huge difference to the individuals and families who are housed here, sometimes under difficult circumstances.
“At the council we are committed to ensuring our facilities and community buildings meet modern standards, which is why we are continuing to invest resources across the borough to make this happen.”
