ALERT from Oxfordshire Trading Standards

Alert message sent 23/06/2020 15:39:00

Information sent on behalf of Thames Valley Police

Oxfordshire County Council Trading Standards are receiving an increasing number of complaints about cold callers offering to cut down and lop trees, resulting in bills for large amounts of money, requested in cash. Some of the businesses are also acting in an aggressive manner towards householders and no paperwork is being issued, so the business is untraceable.

Trading Standards are advising residents to:

Be very wary of agreeing to have work done by doorstep callers - stop and take 5;

Challenge - It's ok to reject, refuse or ignore any requests. Only criminals will try to rush or panic you.

Check - the name of the business may seem familiar to you, but is it the same company? Ring the company that you know to check.

Protect - Contact your bank immediately if you think you've fallen for a scam.

If you feel threatened call 999 or report to Citizens Advice consumer Service on 0808 223 1133
